January 6: John Singleton Was Born. (1968)

January 06, 1968 – On This Date In Hip-Hop, John Singleton was born in South Central, Los Angeles, California. John Singleton would grow up to film, screenwrite produce and/or direct damn near all of my favorite hood CLASSICS such as Boyz N The Hood, Higher Learning, Poetic Justice, and Baby Boy. He’s also done Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious and was the 1st African-American (and youngest) to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director.
