February 07, 1974 – On This Date In Hip-Hop, James “J Dilla” Yancey was born. J Dilla would grow up to: (1) grow up in a musical family, (2) collect vinyl at the age of 2, (3) meet T3 and Baatin (#RIP) in school, (4) become 1/3 of Slum Village, (5) be influenced by Pete Rock, (6) be known as Jay Dee, (7) produce HELLA classic tracks for the likes of ATCQ, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip and more, (8) become 1/2 of Jaylib with Madlib, (9) release 2 albums – one of which is #OnThisDateInHipHop, (10) become an emcee and (11) unfortunately pass away due to cardiac arrest (most likely brought on by a rare blood disorder) at the age of 32…
