February 04, 1913 – On This Date In Hip-Hop, On Jay-Z’s “The Ruler’s Back”, off his album The Blue Print, Jay-Z raps: “I’m representing for the seat where Rosa Parks sat, where Malcolm X was shot, where Martin Luther got popped/ so off we go, let the trumpets blow and hold on because the driver of the mission is a pro — the Ruler’s back”
Rosa Parks was born on this date in 1913. She was a civil rights activist who, along with others, refused to surrender her seat to a white passenger. Her resistance helped spur the Montgomery boycott and other movements to end segregation in the south. Happy Birthday to a Civil Rights pioneer.
