I beg to differ. I respect that opinion though because it’s been proven true (especially from ‘02 – ‘10), but so has the latter. It really depends on which way the pendulum swings. Dudes like SABA, Big KRIT, Coast Contra (who dropped today), The Cool Kids, Noveliss, etc. would of never saw daylight if drug/gangsta rap really hit like that for everyone. Overseas fans show these type of groups/artists more love than we do.
Pac Div officially began in 06, caught a buzz in 08, and loss momentum after GMB dropped in ‘14. During their buzz, the major waves were saturated with Wayne and anyone remotely close to him. Even with that, Likewise still snatched a grammy producing for K Dot (Sing About Me). I’d put them in the same realm as Curren$y, doing well independently, if they still made music consistently.
