March 19: Tone Loc is the Face of Rap Rage (1990)

#OnThisDateInHipHop, the people over at Newsweek did a cover story about the anger in rap music… While NWA was saying [email protected] the Police, the editors decided that the ever-so-friendly #TonLoc would make good for the cover.

Tone Loc? No disrespect to the Loc… But, at the time Tone was mostly known for his fun-filled safe raps like “Wild Thang” and “Funky Cold Medina.” His debut album Lōc-ed After Dark had a song called “Don’t Get Close” but it was — nothing to #rage over.
