On This Date In Hip-Hop, a rare demo song from Dr. Dre x Ne-Yo has hit net. This track is said to be from 2004. If that”s the case, then this is around the time when Dre was thinking about signing Ne-Yo but ultimately went with another singer.
What’s CRAZY about that is, as Ne-Yo is leaving Dre’s studio after being turned down, he runs into Scott Storch. Storch tells Ne-Yo that he’s dope and that they should link. When they link in Miami, Scott Storch is working with Mario and Ne-Yo ends up penning 3 songs for him — one of those was Let Me Love You.
And the rest is history.
At the time I didn’t know who Scott Storch was. I just knew he played piano. But I didn’t know the slew of hits that he had already had. So my manager gets me down to Miami and he (Storch) just happens to be working for Mario that week. We did, I think, three songs and Let Me Love You was the second song that we did. At the time we knew it was something special, but we had no idea that it was going to do what it did. – Ne-Yo
