April 5: Yella Boy Gunned Down. (1997)
April 5, 1997 – On This Date In Hip-Hop, Albert “Yella Boy” Thomas of Cash Money’s UNLV was shot and killed at the age of 22. UNLV stood for Uptown Niggas was really Living Violent and it was up with them and Mystikal. They dissed him on Drag ‘Em N Tha River:
While UNLV was going up for Cash Money at one point, when Hot Boys joined the label, things got crazy internally. At one point Yella Boy allegedly shot up Birdman’s car and house over royalties. Shortly after (not sure the exact span of time), Yella Boy would be gunned down during an alleged heroin deal.
While the internet would allege that Baby’s “What Happened To That Boy” was directed at Yella Boy, UNLV’s LiL Ya refutes the claim:
